It has been one BUSY day aboard the BabyMobile, our new formula, baby food and diaper pantry on wheels!
We took it out today to Variety Care's Straka Terrace location in Southwest Oklahoma City, where we assisted 65 babies and toddlers in need! Straka Terrace is one of eight locations in Oklahoma County where we will serve clients during the BabyMobile's pilot phase. According to the US Census Bureau, nearly 40 percent of children under the age of five who live in this area are in poverty, making this location critical to the BabyMobile's mission. With the launch of our first mobile unit, our hope is to break down the transportation barrier that prevents needy families from receiving our services. Far too often, we hear from parents who rely solely on public transportation. If you've ever tried to ride a bus with a baby while carrying the equivalent of a shopping cart worth of items, you know this can create a stressful burden. If you've never been in that situation, you can probably still imagine how difficult it would be. That's why we felt it was imperative to expand our mission in this way, to reach those families who can't reach us. The BabyMobile is the first of its kind in Oklahoma. On day one, it has already made a significant impact in the community and in the lives of dozens of babies.
We are so thankful for the support of the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation, Sarkeys Foundation, Wal-Mart, TJX Foundation and The Kerr Family Foundation for funding this important project. We brought you a vision, and you brought it to life!
