Your infant is still ryeilng on formula or breastmilk for most of his/her nutrition. I'm assuming your infant is six months or under since you are just starting solids. It's normal for them to spit the cereal out. It is a funny texture for them and they have to get used to it. It usually comes out and goes back in at first. Just keep going with it. Once you are adding veggies and fruits to the cereal it will have more taste to it and be more enjoyable. Right now you are getting your infant used to eating with a spoon and trying different textures. He/she doesn't need to eat a whole lot. In fact my daughter gets full on six to eight spoonfuls. She just started a few days ago and is six months. My mom suggested, and I know many moms and pediatricians wouldn't like to hear this, putting a little tiny bit of salt to flavor it. Some people try sweets like juice, but I agreed with my mom, I don't want her to get hooked on sweets so early on, so I tried a little pinch of salt the second time and she seemed to like it better. The fourth time, this morning, I didn't use any and she did fine with it. Of course she still spits it out somewhat. The other thing is they are learning how to swallow another texture. Not only does it feel different in the mouth, but it doen't go down as easy.
