NATIONAL DIAPER NEED AWARENESS WEEK
In collaboration with the National Diaper Bank Network, its member banks and organizations, Infant Crisis Services observes National Diaper Need Awareness Week, Sept. 14-20. Our week Please participate in any of the activities below to learn more about the issue and help us meet our goal to collect 50,000 diapers.
Clean diapers are a basic need for every baby and toddler.
Now in its 15th year, National Diaper Need Awareness Week shines a spotlight on the reality that nearly 1 in 2 families with young a child struggle to afford enough diapers to keep their baby clean, dry, and healthy.
Diaper need (or diaper insecurity) is the condition of not being able to afford a sufficient supply of clean diapers to keep your baby or toddler clean, dry, and healthy.
Without clean diapers:
- Babies are exposed to potential health risks and toxic stress.
- Mothers are at risk for increased maternal depression.
- Parents are unable to access childcare, which requires a daily supply of diapers.
- Parents miss work or school.
5 million babies and toddlers under the age of 3 live in poor and low-income families.
Diapers cannot be purchased with SNAP or WIC.
The poorest 20 percent of Americans who buy diapers spend nearly 14 percent of their post tax income on diapers. (source: Center for Economic and Policy Research, November 23, 2015)
Infant Crisis Services is a member of the National Diaper Bank Network, a national organization that raises awareness and works to end diaper need across the country. The National Diaper Bank Network supports a network of more than 300 basic needs banks in all 50 states plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
During National Diaper Need Awareness Week, the National Diaper Bank Network, individual organizations and grassroots leaders collaborate to educate about this public health issue and how our community can support people in need.
